What’s it about?
The dose of adrenalin that revived Marvel, Iron Man is a refreshing, take-no-prisoners adaptation of the famed comic book superhero. What’s more? The movie’s success has been replicated in the form of dozens of subsequent productions by the studio. The movie follows Tony Stark, an industrialist and engineering whiz who is captured by terrorists, and builds an exoskeleton suit to escape. The result? Iron Man!
Robert Downey Jr.! That’s what’s hot! His swagger makes him perfect for the role of Stark, a billionaire playboy, who finds his calling and purpose when he is captured with shrapnel in his chest. The storyline is pacy, and the dry wit keeps viewers entertained. Favreau has a great screenplay and cast to lean on, and make this movie worth a watch!
If there’s one thing about Marvel movies – they never get their villains right. But that’s not all! It’s visibly clear that there’s barely any effort to flesh out a negative character. And Iron Man started the trend. Iron Monger is a powerful, but ultimately disposable character, and while a single fight sequence is enough to make a good movie, it won’t ensure that it’s a great one.
I’d give this..
4 Stars – It’s a fun, light watch. You don’t need to be a superhero buff to enjoy this!
